I’m new too but I separated by root and home partitions this last install to try and allow that.

ublock Origin + pihole.
For my pihole I use these lists: https://github.com/sefinek24/Sefinek-Blocklist-Collection
Ubuntu, Pop!_os, KDE… Currently on fedora. It’s been solid. I honestly think I like pop the most but I was having weird gpu issues which haven’t showed up over on fedora.
Never used brave, I think DDG is actually a pretty decent search engine overall. I use it as my backup to searxng and used it primarily for years now before switching to searxng.
Google results work fine for me on my home instance:
If it works for you… I agree with the general sentiment of “if its free you are the product”. However, I see kagi come up so often around here that I feel like it’s some astro turfing. I tried it and was not impressed. SearXNG is by far the best search engine I’ve used in a long time and the best part is I am hosting it locally on my PC, traffic is going out a VPN. You get the privacy and the best results possible since its a meta engine using many different engines.
Wow, thanks. Yeah, I was surprised to see the comments saying the way we browse is abnormal lol… Maybe it’s just how our brain works but I know for me, I am hyper focused on what I am doing in that moment and my thoughts are always shifting but keeping my browser only with what I am actively using is just something I’ve always done. For example, right now this is the only tab I have open. :). I need to utilize containers more… Really, what I want is something that would open containers automatically for specified sites and not have to choose manually to open in.
Cheers and thanks for the comment.
I have my Firefox browser set to clear history, cookie and site data on exit. I never use probably more than 15 at a time. More than 10 is very rare. I don’t get people that keep dozens of tabs open. I just you know browse back to what i was looking for. Seems much faster than searching through tons of tabs.
Same thing happened to me. Moved to pop!_os.I have zero regrets. I’ve learned a ton. I use tons of apps off f-droid and foss Ubuntu apps. I have degoogled most of my life. I’m also developing an Firefox addon for lemmy. It’s usable as a user script addon now. It’s called lemmytools. It’s my small contribution. All because Reddit got stupid. I don’t even browse reddit for answers usually about tech/programming stuff anymore because they block my VPN.
Damn, also would break ublock I assume?
