I use OpenSuse for gaming. A great distro.Highly recommend. An up to date kernel, stable and just works.

Had bad experiences with Manjaro so personally wouldn’t recommend.

Why does this feel lie a viral marketing campaign to get people to watch stuff on X?

“I interviewed Elon, got cancelled and he mad. Watch on X”. It just doesn’t add up to me.

But the interim CEO led the redundancies. The common factor in all of this is the board. The CEO just does what the board are pushing for and sign off on. Ricky is bad and not a good man by any stretch of the imagination, but he was less bad 2/4/6 years ago for a bit. He’s just the hatchet (yes) man doing the business of the big shareholders.

The next CEO will likely be following the same play book. Without a change of board, it’s still an evil company. Ricky was just the fall guy that they bin off so naive folk buy into the fact it’s “all fixed, and back to old Unity”.

The great advise right now, is stay away from Unity. You have Godot, Armory3d, and hell, even Epic run Unreal Engine is better.

You can always start sooner and dual boot on Linux Mint to get familiar test your usecases. I have been dual booting and haven’t logged into Windows in over 6 months. Gaming is pretty good for many games on Linux.

I tried a long time ago on Mandrake or Mandriva, cannot remember. Didn’t stick and eventually after trying to use Windows 10 on a HDD, Linux Mint welcomed me with open arms. Now duel booting on OpenSuse but haven’t started Windows in 6 months. I just don’t need it anymore. Thanks to the Wine and proton teams!

It doesn’t and other software should and will fulfil those purposes. It has for many users and with a few years, will have for most. How do you think some distros run only on Wayland? What are they missing?

It was actually created because of design issues in x11 that prevented certain solutions to modern problems. I think there was also certain security concerns. I did read a blog about this previously.

Over complex software that does everything is potentially stupid. The fact x11 devs went to build Wayland. Its funny how those that build x11 can be critical of the software they build but users cannot. When software becomes a religion.

Very good point. Mr x11 expert maybe seems pissed he’s gotta learn a new tech and refuses to, so will bash it and hope it goes away. But if they were an expert, they’d probably know the things you mentioned.

It is designed to lack features. It has a purposefully limited scope. Bashing it for it’s goal is weird.

It does give anti-SystemD “why make new when what we got now is good vibes”.

Their Java bashing was more a criticism of design patterns than Java, but fell into the meme bashing of tech based on one example. Find an old bug and say tech is dreadful as a result.
