I view the gaming distros as being about out of box. I don’t see anything improving performance outside of how the kernel compiles but I doubt any do anything special.

yeah I always looked at it as more of an out of the box thing being the idea. I mean really for all distros to some degree. To some degree people, I recognize there are other things but I can feel the heat of the torches from the pitchfork wielders already even before I post this.

if hes willing try zorinos. If that does not work I know of nothing easier. It comes with play on linux pretty well configured.

I go the opposite way. Why have a ton of people making the same tweaks when someone can just roll a distro with the tweaks at the get go. puppy linux was like an extreme version of this.

I don’t know of an easier or more beginner friendly distro than zorin.

I mean. does o365 not work or you specifically want to run the exe’s?

I understand the concern about the future and we have seen overbloated projects have issues. In the long run though I will use what works best for me and only get into philosophical comparisons if im making the choice between relatively equal options.

im not really a beginner myself but Im lazy and this point and just want a system up and running asap. if I was not using it I would likely use puppy because I like the read only core.

https://zorin.com/os/ its an out of the box distro that specifically tries to emulate the windows feel. In particular it has play on linux installed by default making running windows programs when needed as easy as it can be. the out of the box is office type stuff really though so you will have to install blender and such.

As much as im a foss person I could see if failing on “merits” in the sense it started in 2003. SuSE might have been worked out but they took 10 years and if at that point they were still using something decided in 2003 it was bound to be messed up. Seriously we are talking when open office was nascent and star office was a thing.

I don’t see why the source of the pdf would manner but I definately used it on a non editable one I would normally have to use draw or such for. it has 3 nice easy options. text box, draw, and insert image. both the first two you can choose the color. The text type and size matched my doc pretty well but im not sure if that is hapenstance or if it actually detects it and figures out a default per doc to be pretty close. Im really hoping its the latter. EDITED - one big thing of note is the text box does not overwrite the backgroud so any lines in the doc stay normal. many things I use end up pushing out the line which you then have to remove and use underline on your text which never looks right with the rest of the doc.

this is off topic but I used the pdf editing and it is way more convenient with non fillable pdfs over using like libre draw or gimp or inkscape. nice and simple and not a lot of options. just enough to get done what needs to get done without cluttering it up.
