Assuming I’m understanding correctly, only a few states allow people to vote in a primary for a party that they’re not registered as. Honestly, I’m not sure why any states still allow that, because I wouldn’t want any registered Republicans voting in the Democratic primary any more than the other way around.

Okay so genuine question from someone who’s used various distros for all sorts of things over the years, just never as a daily driver. What sorts of things have caused your revulsion towards Windows? Aside from Microsoft’s bullcrap like Alexa or MS Store ads which can all be disabled, I’ve personally never had enough of a problem with Windows that justified the effort required to move away from it. And I would consider myself a power user who loves to customize things.

Again, I just want to genuinely understand what sorts of problems people have that cause them to hate using Windows that much, even if they’re just subjective things.

I would look for a dongle that specifically markets itself as being Raspberry Pi compatible. Most stuff you find will prioritize Windows, but if it’s marketed to work with the Pi you know it’ll have at least some level of Linux compatibility. Once you find one, try to figure out what chipset it uses, then search if it’s supported by a handful of the distros you wanna try.

How many tabs do you have open? I have quite a few and it can cause battery to drop a lot. It also occasionally starts using a lot of battery in the background for no apparent reason, which is fixed by just force-quitting the app.

It could also just be that Firefox is inherently more energy intensive than a Lemmy client. Browsers have to handle a lot of stuff to render web pages, while clients for sites just have to send some API calls. I might try using another browser for a few days and see if the battery usage is comparable to Firefox.

In that case, I don’t think the problem is with Arch. The battery is likely shot, as going from partly charged -> dead that quickly is a very common symptom of one that’s reached the end of its life.

When you say you need to connect the charger to get it to boot up again, do you mean boot to Linux or even to just show the BIOS? If the former, it might be that the battery level isn’t being read correctly by the OS, but if it’s the latter, the battery or its related circuitry is likely failing and you’ll need a replacement battery.

Personally I would definitely recommend starting with a live USB. It’s rare, but I’ve had a few times where setting up dual-boot broke the bootloader somehow and getting it back was a massive pain in the ass.

Hmm, I would only purchase them as a third (or more) layer of redundancy, or maybe for storing things like ripped media that could just be re-ripped (or re-torrented) should the drives fail. I would not trust them for anything important since you have no idea what kind of environment they were in for all those years.

Personally, I haven’t run into a situation where I could only configure something via UI. There’s always been an option to toggle between a UI editor, and just a text editor for the appropriate YAML. There could be exceptions that I haven’t encountered, but they’re definitely few and far between.

Yeah it’s a weird thing to say. Google pays Mozilla a HUGE amount of money to be Firefox’s default search engine. Although the main reason they’re happy to pay so much for that is that they WANT to keep at least one Chrome competitor alive, so they don’t end up in an anti-trust shitfest like Microsoft did with Internet Explorer.

Interesting, I just read that they’re opening beta testing of the ability to add all add-ons to Firefox Android again. I wonder if that’s why this works, the support is already built into the beta/nightly versions of the app and changing your user agent just bypasses whatever checks they have to ensure you’re enrolled in the beta test.

Maybe that’s why you can’t find any information about this and why it only works in the recent developer versions of the app.

To be fair, I’m guessing the majority of Pi’s are used headless anyway. Plus even the older Optiplexes have DVI, which is just HDMI without the audio or fancy stuff like ARC. Won’t be getting 4K or anything, but still a very good video output and IMO adequate for almost all use cases.

Unfortunately, even OpenAI themselves took down their AI detection tool because it was too inaccurate. It’s really, REALLY hard to detect AI writing with current technology, so any such addon would probably need to use a master list of articles that are manually flagged by human.

Yes, because streaming boxes can be upgraded independently of the TV and so you can always have hardware that’s actively supported. My old Roku 3 was still getting updates as of a few years ago, while my “smart” TV from 2015 stopped getting security updates long ago.
