There will be some growing pains, but the x86 compatibility layers are getting surprisingly good. Personally, other than Steam, I don’t have any software this is incompatible with ARM.
After enjoying the very local power of Ollama it seems weird to give OpenAI any money.
No, but you can disable Adobe Acrobat Document Cloud services.
Boot to USB drive and load documents from backup. After my shift is over, I restore or replace the bad drive.
If you want to test out Linux, try running a virtual machine instead. There are a few good free software programs to do this. VirtualBox used to be a good option. It’s a free and harmless way to dive into Linux.
Linux Is Only Free if You Don’t Value Your Time
This one is my favorite.
My co-workers SSD failed, and he was out most of the day. My SSD failed, and I was back up and running in about 10 minutes.
I recommend the flatpak version. It’s still a little buggy as an app, and it’s missing a few features, but it’ll be rad when it’s done.
It’s bloat if it slows me down and brings me zero benefit. I have a few extra packages on my system, but it’s still snappy. That’s not bloat to me.
Depending on your phone you might have an image resizer built into your photo gallery. Having said that, there’s always imagemagick.
This is where Distrobox comes in. Simply spin up a tiny containerized Fedora, install Resolve. Everything else on your system can be rock solid Debian.
This gives you the best of both worlds.
I don’t know… Majonging?
There’s still a few edge cases that Flatpak is not great for. The Flatpak version of Kdenlive video editor can’t see Whisper, which it uses to generate subtitles. The Appimage and native builds work flawlessly.
I’m assuming these problems will be addressed eventually but it takes time.
I always recommend older (2-3 years behind) thinkpads and Dell latitudes. Most people don’t need latest and greatest, far more bang for you buck, and they’re relatively easy to repair.
Plus, it doesn’t hurt to keep a perfectly good machine out of a landfill.
GIMP = Image Editing
Krita = Drawing and Painting
Plane Crazy came out the same year. No hat and he wore gloves.
You might be about to just run a native 2fa application like Authenticator.
Outside of that, Waydroid is an option.
Tauon Music Box is minimalist and is also probably the best open source Spotify player.
Sometimes I’ll just run Spotifyd and control it with my phone.
The only device running Snap in my house is a Raspberry Pi running the Snap Nextcloud and it’s rock solid.
This might be a deployment issue. How are most people running it?
Their static website hosting is probably the best in the business. We seriously need some competition though.
