Yes, me too. I was pointing out that SL can be used without Proton Pass.
Proton provides a SimpleLogin account, which is integrated with Bitwarden, so you can get the same functionality directly with Bitwarden too.
Bitwarden also integrates SimpleLogin for one-click alias generation.
I’m in their ecosystem but specifically don’t use it, as it seems extraordinarily unsafe to put my passwords behind the same authentication that I use just to check my email.
To add onto what Andromxda said, SimpleLogin is included with your Proton account (might be paid accounts only).
Use it with a custom domain - it’s amazing and if Proton Mail ever shuts down you won’t have to migrate any of your logins because they’re already on your own domain.
Fair enough. I actually switched from Readwise to Omnivore, as I found the Readwise workflow to be quite painful. I use it for getting things into Obsidian, so I don’t use the re-surfacing features etc.
No idea sorry, I don’t self-host, I just knew that it had the option.
In Edge (and maybe Chrome?), open the menu for any website, then go to Apps > Install this site as an app.
Boom, webpage as standalone program. They appear on your start menu and you can pin them to your taskbar. I do this with all my frequently used tools and it makes things much faster to arrange them all on a screen or get back to them.
Bonus tip: You can use Win+1, Win+2, Win+3, etc to instantly switch to that pinned app on your taskbar.
I don’t really think Trustpilot is a good place to get info, a la Yelp.
Hard disagree on that, I’ve found it invaluable as a tool for assessing the safety of a company. Sure you’re going to get some idiots who simply don’t know how to use the tool and go online to bitch about it, but if you’re seeing a significant number of people making the same complaints about support or having domains withdrawn from them, it certainly makes me suspicious.
Thank you for your reply though, it’s good to hear that some people are having success. My understanding from the reading I’ve done online is that they used to be a lot better but have fallen in quality over the last 2 years.
Have you used Njalla? I was considering them recently, but these reviews gave me serious pause:
What was the issue with Namecheap? I’ve been using them since 2008 and wondering if there’s something I should be aware of.
Thanks for the links, I will go exploring. And for the record I don’t think it’s controversial to call someone a tankie - as stated today is the first time I’ve heard the word.
Many thanks for the links, that’s great to start a dialogue. I didn’t see anything particularly terrible in my read through the crash course (I might have missed something). In the FAQ I see a link to What about Stalin? Didn’t he kill millions? (Revleft podcast on Stalin), which is an external podcast and I don’t plan to listen to it to find out what it contains. Is there something specific which the developer wrote which you can link to?
Regardless of whether any particular developer is or isn’t a “tankie”, Lemmy the software and Lemmy.ml don’t appear to support any ideologies. Their Code of Conduct specifically states “We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of level of experience, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, or other similar characteristic.”
Please don’t think I am merely arguing or playing devil’s advocate. I have only just started using Lemmy and would prefer to not waste my time on a platform that ultimately I wouldn’t like to be associated with, but so far it feels a bit overblown.
The thread from fefitips makes claims without providing any evidence. They say they “have receipts” and can provide on request, but why not simply post it if it actually existed?
I have no dog in this fight - today is the first time I’ve heard the word “tankie” - but I would take the linked claims with a grain of salt until proof is provided.
Wow, you’re not kidding. Looks like they’re going for an close copy of the UI:
Will be great to see how this progresses.
I put my name on the waiting list. Sure it’s gimmicky, but airplane travel is the perfect place for this. I already spent the entire flight reading, and this would let me really zone out.
If you know Javascript you could very easily write a plugin in Obsidian to do this. Just have the plugin replace any markdown with the Unicode equivalent on save.
Great question though, it’s actually making me wonder why this isn’t a thing in normal plain text editors!
