I like Debian with GNOME
Video editing softwares definetely, kdenlive is nothing compared to stuff like sony vegas.
I simply backup the /home folder, where the important files are with duplicity on my home server with ftp once a week, keeping records of the last 6 months. But as that only restores the home folder i also take a snapshot (which takes way more disk space) every month with timeshift too, which stays on the pc. Would be great if i could take complete snapshots via ftp just like with duplicity, but timeshift doesn’t do that.
Debian with GNOME
Edge would ALWAYS get on the way with its stupid search bar widget. They tried to improve their shitty outdated piece of crap internet explorer that nobody was using and they ended up with a modern shitty piece of crap that is edge.
Debian with some low spec DE like xfce or Debian basic DE
This is a lovely story
Until google takes over the whole android project degoogled android such as lineage os or graphene os can be good too
One thing i had to learn when i started to understand how big techs really work, of what that would imply (see chat control) and get passionate about free software, free operative systems and freedom of customization is that freedom itself almost always requires work, the question is: is that a work you’re willing to do? for me the answer is a strong YES.
You have to use the terminal
I installed debian with KDE, so far looks great, not too many problems in setting up my environment, KDE is great and i love the stability that debian seem to be based on, i don’t really care if my software gets a couple of year old, as long as it keeps working without problems!
I would say i never considered Debian seriously, but after learning a bit more about it the perspective of a highly stable / not buggy OS on which i can easily switch between DEs , and without snaps really tingles me.
That looks way more than a home server, it looks like something i would expect to see for a small business!
In place of snap OF COURSE.
I can state without any doubt that i had problems with 80% of the programs coming from snap…
What machine is it?
Am i forgetting something?
true, that’s why i’m probably switching to Immich for that, even with caching enabled Nextcloud is more useful for storing than to go and look to old photos. It’s just slow to load the content, could be that my network is already really slow by itself tho.
I would say it’s more an acceptable solution than a real alternative for now.
Nextcloud + the app “Photos for Nextcloud”
It’s the path of many of us here, now you will hate linux if you come from windows, give it a couple of months and you’ll ask yourself how the fuck you could be on windows till now.
