Load up a live CD of your distro in your VM. Install a browser. Load up all your plugins, bookmarks, sites, when you have it completely how you want it, tarball your Firefox config folder to a USB drive.

The next time you want to use it, start the live CD again and untar the tarball back in your config directory. Anytime you want to update it, just remake the tarball.

It’s ephemeral, no logs are stored, you have almost no chance of accidentally loading the wrong thing.

My 2015 air has been running Ubuntu for about 6 months, I even did the hack to swap the function and control keys.

Power’s not the best. It can only do about 2 hours even after I tune the crap out of everything and apply to every cheap power saving gimmick I could come up with.

I mean, if you want secure/private communication, email should not be your go-to. It’s a horrible platform by today’s standards. It was never designed to have any serious level of security. Once they have an unencrypted email on the target with timestamps and mail headers, all they need to do is see who was communicating with Proton at that point. I don’t know if anything has changed since the PRISM days, but back in the 2000s, they definitely had that level of insight into the web.

About 10 years ago I decided I was going to pick up blender and learn it. No big deal, I used to be really good in radiant so I should be able to catch up. this shouldn’t be that strange. I’ll just pick up a YouTube video how to get started. Just click here click there go to this menu and select that.

Huh, the menu’s not even there. I go start digging around oh they moved at this point revision. Okay fine. Now everything I look up needs to have that exact point revision. It started out fine I was able to find tutorials starting in the exact version that I needed, but then I started needing more specific tutorials working with non-manifold objects crap like that. Well lo and behold somebody hasn’t covered every point revision in blender for every problem I encountered. Trying to find a video on how to do a certain action or even what the action is called now is potluck.

I couldn’t even buy a book or download a tutorial series from a previous version because even point releases at that time were night and day apart.

On The other hand I won’t try to tell you that gimp isn’t a hot mess but it’s got maybe a hundred options 25 of which are the ones I really need to use on a regular basis, and although their locations change and the shapes of the icons the names of them in the menus they’re in don’t move around that much. Blender on the other hand, there’s just s*** all over the place.

I appreciate that it might have gotten better at this point I don’t have the time anymore.

I tend not to use flatpack. I lost a few nights trying to get OBS plugins to work in flat pack. It would probably be fine for something as simple and straightforward as signal. But it’s more or less nothing but disadvantage to end users. That said I’m sure it’s a great savings for you guys.

SD card is a hard no. Need to cram an NVMe hat on it or an external SSD or HDD. They need diskio and a fair bit of quickly recyclable space.

Um, I just switched from gnome to plasma about three or four months ago. I don’t keep anything at all in my desktop I didn’t realize that it was single click.
