I love the fact your using Linux for your digital art. It validates the notion I’ve had about potentially using Linux for learning how to create illustrations and potentially small animations. I’ve used tools like gimp for Photoshop like stuff and davinchi resolve (a tool I’ve used) works on Linux. I might pick up a cheap little waycom eventually and see what happens.

It would be fun to have a stream where software I wrote allows people to shout over each other (running completely locally) while I fail at drawing or making more janky code to do useful/silly stuff.

At least he tried it. Maybe he’ll pick up a second drive and dualboot. Regardless I have mad respect for someone who doesn’t just assume things but puts the effort into finding out for themselves.

I remember when I was testing the water. I accidentally nuked my drive and something about that felt so final. At least after I found the USB drive I kept my backed up files, that was a real nightmare. I thought I lost my receipts for tax sure but all those photos and videos.

Unless you use an Nvidia graphics card. Every little update seems to improve stability and support. I’m on hyprland because plasma 5 had pretty annoying bug they neglected to fix on Nvidia but plasma 6 is starting to look stable so I might switch to it or wait for cosmic. I’m not sure if I could live without tiling and the way virtual desktops work on it now.

I find myself hitting hotkeys that simple aren’t possible on kde. I simply couldn’t use an lts distro with the ever growing gap between the improvements then and where we are at now.

Also x11 sucks and has made my experience miserable Everytime I’ve tried to use it. Anything from horrible screen tearing(from scaling) on Intel integrated to consistent lag and stutter on Nvidia, I’m glad it’s dying.

I can’t blame them. There’s a lot out there that I still remain ignorant of. I’m sure we’re all a bit ill informed here and there.

There one glaring issue. Most people don’t really even know what an operating system is and some of the people I talk to think Linux is a manufacture.

I literally bring up Linux to my friend when they are having trouble getting windows to work and they say I think I have a linux. They mean it’s a Lenovo but they seem pretty confused about the idea of installing a different OS on their machine. This isn’t just older people but 20 something year olds (about my age).

It’s annoying but you can do multiple transcodes at a time on everything but Linux. It’s only annoying because the complexity of h265 means it’s highly serialized compared to older codecs.

I could easily handle multiple transcodes at a time on my 12 core processor with dvds but something like 4k blueray and sometimes hd blueray (depending on the complexity) saturates my processor. It doesn’t run transcodes in a separate process

Did they add support in this version?

You don’t have to be combative, all I was saying is the gui doesn’t make much difference to me. It worked perfectly fine before and I’m sure it’ll keep working just as well as before.

What would make a bigger difference is improvements to the backend seeing that it effects over 90% of the experience and usability of the app. I spend less time in the gui than I do renaming files in my file manager or even the make mkv app.

I’ve already said that but I guess you didn’t read past the first line. I didn’t say give up on development I said who cares about a change in graphics toolkit.

Meh, I use the UI for like ten minutes and let it transcode multiple collection of seasons over the course of a weekend.

It’s a little nicer and a tad faster but it really doesn’t make a big difference unless they improve transcoding speeds/quality. Otherwise I don’t really touch it unless I buy a new box set or go to a garage sale.

If anyone’s curious I rip full quality media with make mkv and point handbrake at the folder to compress it with hevc.

I’ll just wait for the official version to finish porting to Wayland. Nothing against the three guys working on this version. I’m sure they’re good people.

Yeah, thankfully I’ve got a turing card (2000 +)which is said to be the cutoff for the open source drivers.
